(I-BusinessNews.Com, January 14, 2016 ) Fibrin glue is a form of surgical sealant, which is used to close the wounds after injuries and surgeries. It is used to bind the external and internal tissues properly. Fibrin glue or sealants is hemostatic agent, which is extracted from collective plasma that contains different amounts of viral inactivated human proteins and purified proteins.
Fibrin glue is made up of fibrinogen and factor XIII as components. These concentrated ingredients on interaction with a solution of thrombin and calcium forms coagulum, which is a semi-solidified mass. As the thrombin and factor XIII solution combine together, they lead to the formation of fibrin, a clot of blood protein within few seconds. Some of the features of this glue include high surface adherence strength, high internal bond strength and their capability to promote tissue regeneration and formation of clot. It serves various applications in sealing the vascular, cardiac and pulmonary surgeries, lacerations of liver and spleen, and burn bleeding. Furthermore, it is also used in surgeries, such as plastic surgeries, neurosurgeries, and wound management, general and orthopedic surgeries. This glue lowers the risk of infection, healing of tissue naturally, and helps in providing early hemostasis. However, one of the drawbacks of fibrin glue is the risk of transmission of infectious organism from human body to the glue.
Some of the factors driving the growth of the global fibrin glue market include growth of aging population and increasing incidence of chronic wounds. In addition, the growth of pressure sores, diabetic ulcers, and venous ulcers further promotes the growth of the market. Also, the increase in healthcare expenditure and growing government funding is driving the growth of the market globally. However, the growth of minimal invasive procedures, such as endoscopic procedures and laparoscopic procedures, and economic slowdown is the key restraining factor hindering the growth of the global fibrin glue market.
Geographically, North America dominates with major share in the global market for fibrin glue, due to increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and growing surgical procedures. The Asian market is expected to grow with a high rate, where India and China are expected to be the fastest growing markets during the forecast period. The key factors driving the growth of the fibrin glue market in developing countries are large pool of patients, growth of aging population, and healthcare expenditure.
Some of the major companies operating in the global fibrin glue market are Haemacure, Cryolife, Inc., Baxter International Inc., Vivostat A/S, Omrix Biopharmaceutical Inc., Harvest Technologies, CSL Behring, and Interpore Cross.
