(I-BusinessNews.Com, March 02, 2015 ) Sebring, Florida -- In the aftermath of Snowmageddon 2015 and the subsequent snow fall during the month of February, the East Coast finds itself dealing with mountains of snow. Canadian comedian Rick Mercer, on his show The Rick Mercer Report seen on CBC, commented on the effects of multiple snow storms that hammered the East Coast of Canada saying the Atlantic Provinces are simply "Gone." He said about Canada, "Now heading east, the country goes Ontario, Quebec, snowbank."
The problem with all the snow is where to put it. With the constant shoveling, snow blowing, plowing and hauling snow away in trucks, it still seems insurmountable. However, as with all problems, entrepreneurs seize the day and step in with creative ways to deal with them. Kyle Waring of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts chose to see the snow as an opportunity rather than an inconvenience and starting selling snow online. He began selling 9 ounce snow filled bottles and now also sells it in 6 pound and 10 pound packages shipped direct to your home. He plans to continue selling it as long as people keep buying it.
Selling the proceeds of nature's winter wrath is nothing new. In the early 1800's, Frederick Tudor built a business cutting large chunks of ice from ponds and selling it. His idea revolutionized how we store and transport food. His creativity earned him the title of "The Ice King". This, however, may be the first time anyone has successfully sold snow, even if it is for nothing more than to own a piece of history by having preserved a bit of Snowmaggedon 2015.
There is still room for other entrepreneurs to cash in on the mountains of snow. The product could be diversified and sold packed in extra large ice cube trays providing snow blocks for the easy assembly of a miniature igloo for those living in warmer climates who have never had the joy of building an igloo or snow fort. Snow ball fight kits with ready made snow balls could be offered for sale. One thing is certain though, as long as entrepreneurs like Waring and Tudor see possibility where others see problems, we will continue to see creative products become available.
